AC Slater, RYME & Cosella, Night Bass At The Hoxton

Last night, The Hoxton played host to a crazy party combining the forces of two bass heavy labels, BADLQQK and Night Bass. Cosella, part of the BADLQQK collective, took over the decks just as I arrived shortly after 11. Being the crafty local talent that he is, he started his set off with a cheeky remix of Drake's "Hotline Bling" with a female singer rather than the six god. But that wasn't the only remix of a local pop star. He also dropped his own edit of Chris Lake's bootleg mix of The Weeknd, "Can't Feel My Face." I'm with RYME on this one, really hope he uploads it, unfortunately Chris Lake hasn't even uploaded his version so it's doubtful, but we can still hope.

Cosella did an incredible job filling up the dance-floor and getting the crowd active. He played just the right mixture of old and new tracks, constantly working them over with filters and other knobs. I specifically remember him playing the Tom Staar remix of Dansson & Marlon Hoffstadt "Shake That," and his release on BADLQQK, "Elevator," which got people so hyped a fight broke out. However, the standout track for me, was a forthcoming one from Eyes Everywhere, that I'll be watching out for.

By the time Meech took the stage, holding down the fort for RYME (as Rynecologist was late arriving), the club was packed and things went absolutely bonkers when he lead with throwbacks from Fake Blood and Mr. Oizo, "I Think I Like It" and "Gay Dentists JFK edit" respectively. Once Ryne hit the decks the party reached full BADLQQK proportions. The most packed I've seen The Hoxton was #NoNeon nights, last night was not quite as busy but people were really putting their nastiest BADLQQK on.
Full disclosure, RYME are my friends and in an interview we did for my show Electronic Impressions, they claimed their goal is always to get everyone on the dance-floor moving, and they certainly delivered on that. The duo work together so well that something is always happening, whether its transitioning into the next track, filtering or using effects or jumping on the mic, these two always leave people wanting more. They are the best of B2B sets, all the time.
Their track choices were on point as always, playing the perfect mixture of underground unknown belters and more popular tracks like Green Velvet's "La La Land" remixed by Dash Groove, Surkin's "Fan Out," or Boys Noize and Pilo's "Cerebral." Perhaps the biggest tune of their set was Marc Spence's "Nasty,"which absolutely went off.
Obviously AC Slater was the main attraction of the evening, and he simply destroyed The Hoxton with his Night Bass beats. He played a whole bunch of his own tracks and those on the two volumes of Night Bass releases, including his track with GotSome "Move It Back," his track "Roll Up," the unreleased Motez remix of Yo Majesty "Club Action," the Michael Berry remix of "I Don't Fuck With You," his remix of David Heartbreak "Rebel," Sinden & BOT's "Grit Mania," the Jack Beats remix of his own "Jack Got Jacked,"and his collaboration with Tchami "Missing You." But I think the biggest and most fire reception was for his remix of LOUDPVCK "Lit" which you can see below from directly over his shoulder.
